Green smoothies have become so popular that you can pick them up at nearly every cafe and restaurant. It's a great way to get all your greens in along with fibre, vitamins and minerals. The main thing to be aware of is the sugar content. If you're filling your smoothie with too much fruit you will be spiking up that blood sugar (especially on an empty stomach).

On of my favourite blends includes lots of fresh vegetables, a little fruit and coconut water for additional hydrating minerals. If you don't like coconut water this is a good way to try it as the taste is masked. 

INGREDIENTS (makes 2 serves)

  • 1.5 cups Raw C coconut water
  • Handful baby spinach
  • Handful cos lettuce
  • 1 green apple 
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 cup cucumber chopped
  • 1/4 avocado
  • 1/4 lemon with the skin on
  • Thumb size piece of ginger 


Pop all the ingredients into a high powered blender and blend until completely smooth. It can take longer if you are using kale as it can be quite fibrous. If you do find you want a little more sweetness add in some more banana.

Pour over ice and enjoy!
